Worked examples
Every worked decision path, shown and reconciled.
Pricing software asks you to trust a figure. ChefQuote shows the evidence path instead: what the operator is deciding, what changed, what is missing, what human review controls, and what can return to memory. The exact calculations, scoring weights, thresholds, and ranking mechanics remain protected.
Worked example: banquet quote before commitment
Modeled example, not a customer result. A restaurant is asked to price a banquet. The useful product proof is not the internal formula. It is whether the owner can see the business promise, the hidden labor load, the missing evidence, the suggested decision, and the closed-loop record before saying yes.
- Scope capturedCovers, service model, menu promise, inclusions, exclusions, timing, payment pattern, and customer-facing assumptions are organized into one operating record.Visible
- Food and service burden reviewedThe workspace separates ingredient cost, yield, waste, packaging, prep burden, service burden, and handoff complexity so the quote is not reduced to a menu price.Evidence
- Labor reality checkedPrep, cook, service, support, admin, cleanup, coverage, and pressure assumptions are visible to the operator before the output is trusted.Owner review
- Decision reason shownThe user sees the business-level reason to accept, reprice, revise, hold, or ask for missing information. The protected calculation sequence remains private.Protected
- Actuals close the loopAfter the event, real revenue, cost, labor, guest count, travel, packaging, outcome, and feedback are reviewed before anything can return to memory.Reviewed
What the tool then recommends, and why
The public example shows the recommendation boundary, not the recommendation formula. ChefQuote should explain what changed, which evidence is trusted, which assumptions still need review, and what decision is on the table.
The value is focus: ChefQuote narrows operating noise into the few choices that need owner judgment. The customer can understand the workflow and trust boundaries without receiving the formulas, weights, thresholds, or ranking mechanics.
The same banquet, with the human evidence boundary intact
The reprice above fixes the money. It does not establish how the crew feels. For a hypothetical 120-cover banquet with four on the line and six consecutive days already scheduled, ChefQuote separates what is known from what still must be asked:
- Schedule exposureHours, long shifts, short turns, consecutive days, and coverage concentration are auditable operating facts.Counts only
- Manager planThe operator can record a relief plan at the entered labor assumptions. That is a planned control, not proof of recovery.Planned
- Direct team feedbackRecovery, fairness, voice, recognition, support, and intent to stay require a qualifying team aggregate.Unavailable unless supplied
- Operating-capacity opportunity costCompare what the date earns per scheduled hour against operator-entered alternatives.Operator scenario
- Financial read after confirmed reliefThe owner sees whether the decision still works after planned operating controls, before any separately evidenced opportunity cost.Reviewed
So the honest read is not “margin target hit, send it” and it is not “the schedule proves morale is low.” The money can work while the human evidence is still incomplete. ChefQuote shows the relief plan, keeps survey dimensions separate, and asks the operator to obtain direct feedback rather than manufacturing a worker outcome.
A job can clear its financial target and still need a staffing or recovery review. Business Health scores operating segments but intentionally leaves the People segment unscored. Direct aggregate dimensions stay visible without being turned into a morale, health, or retention probability.
Opportunity cost & business health
Two of the site's reads aren't about a single quote — they're about the business behind it. Opportunity cost compares what a job earns per scheduled hour against an operator-entered alternative, so the assumption stays visible. Business Health combines financial and operating evidence only; it does not turn manager ratings or schedules into a human score.
If an operator wants to model a vacancy cost, Crew Calculator accepts that as an explicit scenario input. ChefQuote does not supply a role multiplier, a probability that someone will leave, or an expected-turnover cost. Research may justify reviewing workload, recovery, control, fairness, and schedule stability, but it does not validate an individual prediction from this product.
| Read | Buyer-safe explanation | Protected boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Opportunity cost | Compares the proposed work against an operator-entered alternative so the owner can see tradeoff, not just revenue. | Protected calculation |
| Vacancy-cost scenario | Uses an explicit operator scenario for replacement, ramp, rework, and management time; it does not predict a person will leave. | No worker probability |
| Financial read of yes | Shows whether the decision still makes sense after planned controls and evidenced tradeoffs. | Protected calculation |
| Business health | Combines financial and operating evidence while leaving direct human feedback separate and intentionally unscored. | Private scoring layer |
Opportunity-cost, vacancy-cost, and improvement-package values are operator-entered scenarios. They must not be presented as observed loss, avoided loss, return on investment, or a worker-level prediction. See the live Business Health tracker.
